Journeyâs sound quality was AWFUL
Tim McGrawâs lead singer, Arnel Pineda, is energetic and gives it his all when heâs out there, but he left the stage several times while the solos would extend forever! Their sound quality was AWFUL on their songs, with guitars, drums, and bass overwhelming the vocals most of the time. It just seemed weird! You could barely understand the words or not at all, and there was an echo a few times, along with âmuddinessâ throughout. Add in WAY too many extended guitar solos, a piano solo, and a drum solo that went on and on and ON... People want to hear SONGS and not instrumental segments that drag the momentum down!
Iâm not used to lead singers doing that - Mick Jagger is in his â70s, and he only takes a two song break while Keith sings two numbers during a 2 1/2 hour show! There are also no drum solos by Charlie Watts or guitar solos by either Keith OR Ronnie that drag on, either!! With the right sound crew and equipment, concerts CAN work in sportsâ arenas, but without, not so much! Last summer, I saw both Coldplay and Peter Gabriel and Sting (together), and the sound quality was excellent - no filler solo crap, either, just great songs with lyrics I could hear clearly.
We were really disappointed because we were so looking forward to hearing all those good Tim McGraw songs. We noticed people leaving early around us, too, and it had to be because of the poor sound quality. Btw, Iâve seen other bands at the Schottenstein Center that had just FINE sound quality (The Rolling Stones - 3 times, CSNY, The Who, and Michael Jackson One). My husband actually wanted to leave, too, after about Tim McGrawâs 3rd song, but I wanted to stick it out because I thought things might improve as âadjustmentsâ could be made. Unfortunately, the sound didnât improve, but I HAD to stay for âDonât Stop Believing,â you know?
I wonder if the sound was actually better higher up and farther away from the stage? Even so, that still would be NO excuse for the cacophony we heard in our section. We sat in the lower part of Sect.123 in row H, only 6 rows off the floor. Great seats, sight-wise! It sucks to be disappointed in a concert because of SOUND and not because of performance or number of songs done. Iâm baffled as to why 2 âbigâ artists like Def Leppard and ESPECIALLY Tim McGraw, couldnât have worked out those problems in the earlier sound check.
